Dhak Bahiri Cave Night Trek

The target - Dhak Bahiri Cave We finally got to do something, which we had wanted to do for a long time - a night trek with a trekking group. The destination was Dhak Bahiri Caves situated on outskirts of Karjat, around 90 km from Mumbai. We both were very excited as we had never been on a night trek and especially not with a group. We went with a trekking group called TMI (Trek Mates India). We were charged 1100 per person, which was pretty reasonable considering they provided us with transport, lunch and breakfast. Start of the trek with torches Our meeting point was Pritam Hotel, near Dadar station at 10:30 pm on Saturday 9th April. We reached there in time but the bus got delayed. It was private non AC bus. We left from Dadar station around 11:15 pm and did two more pickups at Chembur and Sanpada bridge. By now we had all the people in the group. It was a group of 28 people including the organizers. We traveled for around 2 hours. The traffic congestion was horrible an

Prabalgad Trek

Continuing from our previous blog of Kalavantin Durg .... The target Once we came back from the Kalavantin Peak and reached the base of the stairs, there was a very narrow trail towards the left, which according to the shopkeeper led to the Prabalgad Fort. The other way was to hike all the way down to the base camp and then trek back up again through the different route. Cave in the hill So we set out target reaching to the Prabalgad Fort and follow the shortest possible way, even if it was a little riskier and harder. We decided to take the trail. Just few meters into the trail we came across a cave cut in the hill rock. It was perfect square cave. Trail start to Prabalgad We were not sure that if it contained any harmful creatures or insects and hence explored only few meters into the cave and then came back. We also abandoned the cave exploration as we did not have a torch with us. We kept moving on the trail and there was another group also which was moving behind

Kalavantin Durg Trek

We are back again with another trek. This time we went to Kalavantin and Prabalgad, which we will cover in two separate blogs. When we decided to go on trekking our only destination was Kalavantin, but we ended up covering Prabalgad also in the same day. We chose Kalavantin based on the difficulty level, a little more than our previous Mahuli Trek. Also, it looked challenging in photographs and various accounts we read online. This time we had proper trekking gear - trekking shoes, trekking poles (one for each of us) and trekking bag. Start of the hiking trail This time we knew it would be hot so we left at 5:30 in the morning. But as soon as we left from our home, we found that out bike had no fuel. So we wasted around 30 minutes searching for an open petrol pump. Finally we got fuel and left for Kalavantin. To reach the parking spot you will need to reach the Thakurvadi village. You can ask the villagers to reach the parking spot. It took us around 1 hour 45 minutes to reach t

Mahuli Fort Trek

Hello everyone, we are back again with another trek. This time we went to the Mahuli Fort, which is around 13 km away from Vasind on the Mumbai-Nasik Highway. So, this we decided on this trek after searching for viable options within the range of 50-100 km from our residence in Powai. As usual we did some research on parking facility, route, area details etc. and embarked on the journey at 6:00 am in the morning. View after exiting highway The road is pretty straight forward once you are on the Eastern Express highway. You drive straight for around 42 Kms before you leave highway and go onto smaller roads and villages to reach the Mahuli temple (which was our intended base destination). But unfortunately the map took us to the Mahuli Fort village which is located at the foot of the hills. There is no parking facility in the village and we requested at one of the houses, to park our bike, to which the owner consented. Dashrath Our Guide Once parked, we purchased some dry
